#BeautyBlyss …about this Shea Moisture ad…

Click photo for their Facebook apology

So, my first beauty post was going to be about exfoliating…

Then yesterday, the company, Shea Moisture came under fire for an advertisement that had White women in it. They have since apologized for the ad and pulled it - you can see that by clicking the photo...

I don’t use any commercial hair products because – chemicals – and I’m allergic to every damn thing!

However, even though I wasn’t angry about the ad, I saw the point of the Black and Brown women that were upset. The very name “shea” indicates that the products this company sells contain heavy oils and creams that people with curly hair need to use to moisturize their locs. Even though people with straight hair may occasionally use such products, this demographic is still not their target market so I get the clap back from Black women. All women (and some men) spend a ton of money on their hair so I think I would be a little pissed with this company if I bought their products.

It is not a good feeling when you don’t feel like you’re a valued customer and I have stopped patronizing businesses many times when I’ve been given that impression.

It’s going to be interesting to see if Shea Moisture recovers from this! They have definitely created buzz for themselves....
