Resell Shopping
The resell market for fashion has become incredibly popular. I have explored using one of the popular "ebay" like sites for fashion to gain more exposure. It was not a pleasant experience and I lost more money than I made. That being said, here are some things I learned from the experience.
With all online stores and sellers with which you are unfamiliar – and even sometimes with those you know, it is better to be safe than sorry. There are some things you should consider before purchasing from anyone online.
This includes the things I may share from some of these resell sites! Oftentimes, I see a cute listing and I just click the share button! This does NOT mean I have thoroughly vetted the item! I charge a fee for that! 😉
First and foremost - when in doubt, DON'T!
Seriously - DO. NOT. DO. IT.
1. Look carefully at photos and read the descriptions! I send items to my friends and clients all the time that I know they will love but I always give this disclaimer! If you are seeking information that is not there, ask questions! A good online seller will respond to all reasonable correspondence in a timely manner. It is also a good idea to reach out with questions to test they seller’s customer service skills! You work hard for your money and you want to always do business with people who appreciate your patronage. It is particularly important to do your homework when it comes to shoes.
2. Consider the price! Some listings are way to high for pre-owned items. Yes – even the high-end designer pieces. It does not make sense for you to pay someone $1200 for a $1500 Louis Vuitton bag. Just cough up the extra $300 bucks and get your own brand new. You also cannot guarantee authenticity on most of the resell sites. So, the flipside to this advice is if it’s too good to be true, you’re probably correct to doubt it! For example, I have yet to come across a good price on a pre-owned Goyard bag. I am just going to have to wait until I can afford one direct from Paris!
3. Make sure you REALLY want it! I usually make resell purchases when it’s a piece that I passed up when I saw it in the store and regret not buying (or buying several), or something I had, loved, and literally wore out!
4. Swimwear and under clothes – just DON’T!!! Unless they are NWT (New, With Tags). There are many users on some sites that have boutiques and they buy items wholesale to sell online retain (NOT resale). Please look for my boutique coming very soon! Until then, please shop my personal closet! I am cleaning it out!
I hope this is helpful to you!
